It doesn't appeal to my competitive side, or my problem-solving side. It feels like people just say stuff to be funny half the time. And the poor DM has to roll with it. Those rules only start making sense in a video game, where there's no DM's favour and no bullshitery from anyone.
And don't get me wrong, games like BG3 are not good because they are D&D. They are good because Larian kept doing the same game for 30 years with increasingly better results. The very happy-go-lucky, marvel style writing I usually in some D&D projects usually makes me wanna not touch it ever.
