F that. Europe needs to lead its own defense efforts. Or else we will get bullied around for what we got. We are strong enough to act on our own, but need to weed away narrow national interests

The article written by an American, is not surprising, but the old days are gone, when the US ruled the roost. Trump has seen to that, treating his allies as dirt and cosying up to dictators.

Will the US military be around in Europe long enough to take any meaningful role in the build up. By all means include the US but do not depend upon them. They are now unreliable and possibly not even allies.
Please don't let dumbistan have any say in EUs defence plans. They rely on numbers not skills.
This is just a wild guess, but I reckon defense coordination will be decided very quickly in case there should be an attack. It's one thing talking about it - it's another thing doing it. Even more so under pressure!
Well, Margrethe Vestager, the former EU commissioner for Competition, wanted to appoint an American lobbyist as chief economist of DG Competition. And the feckless @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu just gave Trump a win, for no good reason. And we keep using MuriKKKan spyware. All these have to change.
