What gets me is, if you look at the numbers, the NRA basically stopped buying off Congress a while ago! Their donations have been very small of late. But Congress stayed bought anyway. What does that tell you?

For those playing the home game, the LARGEST of the NRA donations to any politician in the 2024 cycle (sum total of all donations to that candidate) was under $10,000. Here's the entire fucking list:

Someone please remind me who this twat waffle was SoS of during this 90's. Guess who did not win the 2016 DNC primary. Where are the images of the poster during the 2016 primary on the local transit stations. RTD is a huge part of the problem here in Denver.

"See these things you enjoy owning? Dems want to ban them. They have banned them in other states where we didn't have the votes to stop them. They tried to pass a ban in this state but we stopped them. But they will try again next year and if we lose our majority they'll probably succeed."

Most other Republican policy positions aren't super popular. One of the few things keeping them from splintering and fading into obscurity is guns, and more specifically the Democratic Party's stubborn insistence on trying to make popular ones illegal to buy and own.

The real question is: if traditional lobbying is fading, what new methods are keeping lawmakers in check, and is that more dangerous in the long run?

Authoritarian Trumpism is the method, and yes, it's more dangerous.
