Whatever that is supposed to mean. Why all the content-free Newsom-bashing? Do you find him threatening in some way? All he's doing is being the MOST effective Trump critic out there.

Another really good reason why you shouldn't be able to buy two boxes of Sudafed is that pseudoephedrine has now proven to be ineffective when taken orally. It shouldn't even exist in pill form; it has no value as a medication. So it should be taken off the market, entirely.

So sad. Mark was the chronicler of the Presidency… if you wanted to know how many times GWB played golf, for example, or how many books Obama read aloud at the Easter Egg roll, you asked him. We never met but we had many exchanges on the Other Site and I’m glad he knew how much I valued his work.

This is where cities will need to start talking about "taxation without representation", point out that they are generating basically all the tax revenue, point out that they are being robbed of representation, and take appropriate actions about that. And maybe some inappropriate actions.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
Authoritarian Trumpism is the method, and yes, it's more dangerous.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
For those playing the home game, the LARGEST of the NRA donations to any politician in the 2024 cycle (sum total of all donations to that candidate) was under $10,000. Here's the entire fucking list:
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
That's certainly one good theory.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
What gets me is, if you look at the numbers, the NRA basically stopped buying off Congress a while ago! Their donations have been very small of late. But Congress stayed bought anyway. What does that tell you?
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
Which policy has changed? I'm aware of Newsom's various remarks. I'm not your "bro", btw. I raised the policy because that is what actually counts most. You don't appear to have a real answer to my point.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
Those are interesting "thoughts" you made up and straw-manned into my head! Bluesky is, btw, about two orders of magnitude too large to be described as "micro" anything. Try to keep up.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
Third parties don't work. Mostly because they always lack any cogent animating principle. As is once again illustrated here.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
You thinking that obsessive tracking of block stats is in any way meaningful is quite misguided.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
I think you should focus a lot more on Newsom's actual policy ACTIONS in office. I think that would be more fair. www.kqed.org/news/1192923...
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
With respect, you don't have the faintest notion what he "thinks", and you should avoid pretending that you do.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
Except he's really not, and McCain deserves more respect than that, btw. This is a really weak, vague, childish argument.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
Except it's really not; this is a very common view even among Democrats right now, and so although I understand you might not like it, you need to acknowledge it and come to terms with it. Because it is a fact. This isn't simply a "far right" view. Labeling opposition as "phobia" also doesn't help.

I said this 7 months ago and was called an alarmist. History says elections won’t save us. They will end us. Blue states must declare war. “I researched every Democratic attempt to stop fascism. The success rate after fascists were elected was 0%.” ▶ Once they win elections, it’s already too …
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
Agreed. Much more likely. But either way, it will happen, and either way, SiegHeil News will make sure we all hear about it, incessantly, for eons.

Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
Is it? These people are very good at demonizing all kinds of things that should be admired.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
Indeed, if ONE single sophomore at Random St. College ends up burning a flag, the entire right-wing fascist media will rise up in a perfectly-in-tune choir and pronounce that "the left" and the entire Democratic Party are burning flags. Expect this to happen within days.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
Great. Bring back awareness without using the word "breaking" poorly and dishonestly.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
You have to remember that you are dealing with people who still pretend not to have figured out the result of the Civil War and the ramifications of that result.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
That doesn't make it "breaking". At all. And you know that, which is why the headline is entirely, 100%, about the part that you know is more click-baity. Not the part you are claiming is "breaking". Don't be dishonest in how you handle things like this. You'll get more respect being honest.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
That's only if civil society survives and actually punishes all the people who did this. For those of you playing the home game, not only were the Jan. 6th treason folks not properly punished, but they received pardons. Guess what that means? It means they're now emboldened.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
I think the real problem is Nazis, and people who nitpick at the party fighting the Nazis, like you. Rather than, um, joining in the effort to fight the Nazis. Get on the right side, dude.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
We should. And I think that's happening. But I am not very convinced that this is one of those problems. Educating kids to use new technologies is good.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
A lot of classes of jobs have already been about 60-80% eliminated by AI, or forever changed, or both. Most definitely in my field of IT, that is unquestionably true. And in health care and various research fields. And it removes the drudgery from a really wide range of tasks. We can't hide.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
AI's not ready for a lot of things that sci-fi and various lying CEOs want it to be ready for. That's true. It's absolutely ready for prime time in a lot of ways, though. That's a proven fact that's not going away. Whether we're ready for it (we're not) is sort of beside the point. It's here.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
I'd say this is partly true, but like it or not, many jobs of the near future will increasingly require familiarity with AI and how to use it well. Loose talk about all AI being just "autocorrect" just distracts from the reality here, in addition to being, well, obviously not true.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
No undergraduate degree? More like, you don't even have to graduate from third grade.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
Pretty easy to say when you're coasting along using a platform that would not exist if not for capitalism, from a device that would not exist, on an internet that would not exist, using electricity that would not exist.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
Side note: Apple donated zero dollars to Trump. Tim Cook did donate to the inauguration, but did so out of his own pocket, so that Apple wouldn't have to.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
BTW, if you're going to be a coward and hide behind anonymity, it's bad form to doxx others and take advantage of the fact that they aren't afraid to hide their identity. Fight fair or just keep quiet.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm saying it because it's true. Cook is doing the bare minimum to keep idiot-Hitler calm. He's not saying any bullshit about Trump's unique genius like so many other CEOs are. What would you have him do? As CEO he has a *legal obligation* to protect Apple's financial interests. And he's doing it.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
That's great. It also does not conflict with anything I've said. Have a nice day.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
Well, I'm sorry if I was intemperate as well.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
Hey, at least it's still Unix, which will be better than Windows for as long as the sun continues to rise in the east. And you know it. That's why you are so pissed off. :)
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
You probably should keep going with your first instinct, then. Sounds like it was a good one. I won't be "running" any party at any point. I've got a lot of concerts to do plus a "real" job. You will have to find someone else to blame for whatever bad decisions Dems make next.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
You can say "fuck you" all you like, but I'd rather you just support your argument better. What does my political alignment have to do with any of this?
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
Ryzen is of course completely laughable in any mobile device. Unless you can keep it on a block of dry ice plugged into a 500W power brick all day and you don't care about battery life.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
BTW, the iPhone 4 in 2010 debuted low-light photos. Get your facts at least close to straight before embarrassing yourself in public. Also, you might want to do a little review of which camera system filmmakers are choosing. It's not HTC or any other Android device.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
Wrong. They have a markedly better lifespan, and I know, because I support hundreds of Macs and hundreds of PCs and have for decades. They also receive software updates for a much longer time, as you should know if you are even mildly informed on these topics.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
BTW, who built all the parts you assembled into a PC? Let me give you a hint. It wasn't folks that are all making a living wage.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
Try backing up that argument. And oh! Two hours! Gosh. That completely transforms your argument into something reasonable. Only no, it kinda doesn't.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
There isn't any actual fawning here. Tim Cook is just holding his nose and doing his fucking job to save his company from hundreds of billions in idiotic tariffs. He's doing the bare minimum.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
So in other words you did 15 minutes of assembly using a set of very very easily-assembled parts that others built. I'm sorry. Building a PC is not terribly impressive. Don't pretend you are Edison. That shit is trivially easy these days.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
That's cool and I can respect that, definitely. I just don't really appreciate having to read the same bullshit argument for 20 years that isn't even close to true, about Apple products. You know better. Find a better argument.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
Did you have a point to make or are you just being a cowardly anonymous idiot again?

Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
People who talk about how strangers are "triggered" are always, without exception, blithering idiots. You don't have a real argument, so you resort to this kind of pathetic grade-school bullshit, instead. :)
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
We're all aware of that. It is, of course, not possible to produce that product in the US. So I'm not sure why you are in public saying stupid things about the obvious.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
Uh, grandmas and basically every top-level creator in the world. Nice try, though.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
Anyone using the word "fanboys" is an idiot, first of all. Just reveals you have no real argument and no knowledge of the subject matter at hand. You haven't stated anything substantive at all, yet, let alone anything "obvious".
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
Products that last 3 times as long as competing products, you mean? Dude, at least come up with an argument that passes the laugh test. You're batting 0-for-3 so far.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
Why? This certainly isn't a reason.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
In all the ways that really matter? Yes, they are.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
Uh, actually, it's due to decades of making incredibly good products. Nice try, though.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
Uh, there's basically no capitulation from Apple here. Apple is laughing at him.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
Pretty disappointing that Mamet could not even handle Terry Gross. Dude, just get a grip. You're not entitled to universal approval from women.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
I'd have to mostly agree, but I was slightly more enthusiastic. I had a good time. But I wasn't expecting a great work of cinematic art. I'd say it was basically even with Fantastic 4. Around 3/5 if you apply the standards expected of superhero movies.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes. It was. They will stop at nothing, and cover up anything, in order to prop up whomever they have to, in order to ensure that the rich will continue to get richer and the white will continue to hold the degree of power they have since America was first colonized.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
A lot of people have already gone first, and second, and third. Colbert, 60 Minutes, more major new anchors than you can even count anymore, various other major figures in basically every journalistic organization in the country. Now they're all fired, or removed in other ways.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
I sent a letter to Trump saying that he will pay all my bills, resign, report to federal prison voluntarily, and sell Mar-A-Lago in order to give me the proceeds so that I might spend it on beer and pizza and index funds. My letter has a better chance of being fulfilled than Trump's does.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
Or you could just create an app or agent that defeats Trumpism and restores Medicaid to what it's supposed to be. More effective use of resources.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
Chaotic good seems to be winning overall, but I agree with neutral good.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
If Cornel West wants to serve in public office, he should run for an office he stands a chance of winning, and put in the WORK required to get elected, instead of meddling in presidential elections like some sort of resurrected zombie of Jill Stein or Nader.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm sorry, but first of all, it's Cornel with one L, and second, no, you spending way too much money getting him on ballots he had no business at all being on does NOT make democracy work. Not that I don't support most of your other efforts, but this didn't help and could have badly hurt.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
And btw Scott, do you have any real refutation of what was said against West? I suspect not. Cause it's true.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
Actually there's real research showing that serious people engage in MORE profanity, so fuck off and get better at arguing back instead of bitching about side issues.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
If we're bashing Cornel, we should at least spell his name right. One L.

Why would you bother to nitpick when Dems are not even close to getting the votes in the House, let alone the Senate? This shit does. not. matter. You can pretend it matters while Rome burns, if you like. But there are more productive ways to spend your time, like winning the House back.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
No, it's not. Because we have other tools which are demonstrably effective. If your ONE and only one chosen tool were so great, you'd be able to get more House members behind it than just Ilhan Omar, a few unknowns, and...basically nobody else. You're not even at 10% of the Dems.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
Except that it generates no responsibility, and it's demonstrably NOT "where you start", because it leads to nowhere over and over again. I get that you are a professional impeachment advocate, but look: impeachment has been fucking worthless as a tool of restraining this tyrant. It will remain so.
Jeff Fields (@baritone.bsky.social) reply parent
We should fight. Just not via impeachment since, and this is VERY simple math, getting 67 votes in the Senate *is a fantasy*. Fight in the courts and in the press and in protests and in those ways. At least until there is some indication that you can sway a LOT of Senate Republicans.
