What cost of living crisis? People freely paying $28 for eggs on toast and $8 for a coffee, at cafes all around Melbourne.

And I’ve taught my teens well with the fancy ‘Ploughman’s Lunch.’ We have all the bits for an awesome spread and they’ve mastered flat-iron toasty maker. (Overheard a young project manager on $140k wondering why he couldn’t save, then looking at his Uber Eats expense for year - almost every meal! 😬)

I’ve never used Uber Eats in my life. I do buy the odd souvlaki take-away but I just go collect. That’s more or less our take-away spend. I don’t mind cooking. My youngest loves it. My eldest looks at me like he’s lost in space.

They wanted takeaway this evening. I made two mammoth nachos (and enough for 2nd meal) with organic beef, low salt corn chips, 2 x avocado, beans, tomato, capsicum, cheese, sour cream etc and sides of corn on cob and potato salad. $22 for the lot. (They’re happy to reheat - not quite create yet!)

Yes! When did the average cafe breakfast go from $14 to 26? In most cases I don’t get the markup. Also baulked at a $7.60 takeaway coffee recently (with weekend surcharge). I’m fine with public holiday surcharges (to cover wages) though it did make me decide not to order from that place on weekends.

If all the people freely paying that would get fully behind raising the rate, Australia would be just a little bit more equitable.
