Is Superman woke? Or are you just realizing you’re the bad guy? 🤷♂️
Is Superman woke? Or are you just realizing you’re the bad guy? 🤷♂️
It’s the same as when these people realize what machine that band is raging against.
"wait, WHO is the machine?"
Superman is literally an alien living under a fake name in the U.S. but because he’s white all the racists are like, “he’s American!”
And he grew up working on a farm before becoming a reporter in mainstream newspaper. MAGAs go to Superman movies thinking he's the bad guy!
Imagine cheering for Lex Luthor in a Superman movie.
America is filled with people wearing shirts, car decals, and tattoos who know nothing about Superman. Using his imagery to suit their own purpose. Many times distilling it down to Superman as patriotic symbol, or some "I'm a tough guy" bullshit. While discarding the core of the story of Superman.
🎯
He was an undocumented immigrant who grew up working on a farm and became a journalist in the mainstream media, MAGAs are going to the new Superman film thinking Superman's the villain!
Yes and yes. 🤏🏽
Lex Luther doesn’t think he’s the bad guy, never will.
"Are we the baddies?"
Superman in the 30s and 40s fought Nazis. They would have them fighting with them now.
And the Klan. a reporter had gathered information about how the Klan was basically a domestic terrorist organization (up to that point they were thought of as a social club, like the Elk's lodge, or the rotary club) but no paper would publish it either because the Klan had their fingers there, or
They were afraid of reprisal by the Klan. You know who was willing to air it? A Superman Radio serial. It changed the public's perception of the Klan and later went on to inspire the comic "Superman Smashes the Klan."
Superman is an illegal immigrant and refugee. Clark Kent is undocumented.
Worse than that, he's a reporter in the mainstream media. And he grew up working on a farm!
Oh I don’t know: fighting for truth and justice sounds pretty woke to me.
Though “the American Way” now seems to involve reptile-themed concentration camps.
The world's first Nazi-puncher, so yes. This does make me wonder what kryptonite is.
somebody once told me that american comics tend to be about the individual changing the world, japanese manga are concerned with how we live after the apocalypse, and french bd are more broad strokes existential. like, how do we live? why do we have hands? do they have to be hands?
Yeah, I used to listen to Rage Against the Machine but then they got all political, and now I don't listen to them anymore. ***snark***
Truth is superman IS woke. Because woke has never truly meant anything different from being on the good side. Even though they think we are less than and stupid and disgusting for it.
It's recognizing nobody deserves to suffer. It's being good to people because they are like you and not denying the fact that they are like you. Recognizing that bad situations aren't earned they're thrust upon us just as life is thrust upon a child upon birth.
It's more than being on the good side, it's being aware of systematic injustices that go beyond whether a person intends or not to be racism and standing against it, and yeah, He's always been Woke.
The only think that was surprisingly woke about that movie was that a character played by Alan Tudyk doesn’t stay dead.
Oh come on. Any movie where Alan Tudyk isn't dead at the end will completely destroy my suspension of disbelief. What next? Sean Bean going off to live a long and happy life?!?
Like seriously, these people would call Barney the Dinosaur "woke." When a message is as basic bitch simple as "be kind" and the response is to call that leftist propaganda, then they are beyond the realm of cartoon supervillain.
They would call public libraries communist or socialist or antisemitism if they proposed it now.
All while they burned books from Jewish authors and gave the "My Heart Goes Out to You" salute.
