Dug up a part of the hill in the back of the garden to make a flower bed which is going well, but in the meantime, ants have colonized the clay hill we excavated. Daughter wanted to see how they reacted to rain (watering can,) We’re working on her first strike policy. 😅

We used to catch horned lizards and place them near ant hills/holes and watch them dine on the ants.

Have you tried ignoring them, if that doesn't work escalate to a polite cough, and if that doesn't work take it to the extreme and tut, if that doesn't shift them they might require a strongly worded letter to points of view

Do a Soil Life test with your daughter. Needs = White sheet/card and trowel or spade. Method = Dig down about 15-20cm. Take one scoop of soil and place on center of sheet. Gently spread it a little. In one minute, how many different species can you count. If only 1 or 2, not healthy. 3+ healthy!
I don't mind them until they come into the kitchen. Then it's Napalm time.

These guys! Have oppo to observe closely and 🤯. Most amusing/unexpected phenom: 50-yard ant trail —soldiers marching single-file around walls of 4 rooms— all abruptly reverse course to gather into a massive tight clump…and apparently fall asleep! Much online searching ensued (me, not the ants)
Could have been worse - as kids we used to wee on ants nests 😞.
