Lemme hear from all you silver foxes who've had your shingles vaccine! OLD PEOPLE IN THE HOOOOOOUSE!
Lemme hear from all you silver foxes who've had your shingles vaccine! OLD PEOPLE IN THE HOOOOOOUSE!
one question for everyone in California. Do your vaccinations say you need 3 rounds in the same year?
Two rounds, two months apart.
Thank you. Things are different in the red states I guess!
Yep! After a friend caught it in Jan and is still having nasty nerve pain our ladies quiz team all got the vax, we are officially “All the Shingle ladies”
😂😂😂Wooo woooo wooo
She stole our moves 🤪
Have an appointment now (thanks for the reminder, Duncan). Shingles and Covid-19 booster the same day, yeah baby! Vacc-i-pain-shee-ownnnnn....😂.
I got the 1st one with my flu shot, probably wouldn't suggest that. The 2nd one said "hold my beer". Anyway, it's done.
I got number two coming soon along with a TDAP and something else I forgot because I am so old lol.
😅
Not sure about where you are, but in California here there are so many ads for shingles in the grocery store that sound are made to sound like some stalker / killer on the other side of the door. I get it's a serious disease, but the ads make me laugh. "Who is that coming for you? IT'S SHINGLES!"
Were you a cheesy quaver back in the day Jonesy?
Yup, got mine at Christmas when I had my check up
Shongles!🤣🤣
I've had shingles, in my greater occipital nerve. I can heartily recommend the vaccine as an alternative to turning up at your GP one day and begging them to saw your head off.
I was holding out, thinking I didn’t need one, until someone told me that you can get shingles in your EYE. I got vaxxed the next day. Yee gods.
Yes, a friend lost some of his vision in one eye due to shingles. Get that vax!
Got mine early as I'm on the extremely vulnerable list. had it twice and its not a fun thing.
Going to ask my Dr. about getting it tomorrow. My office (of a few thousand people) reports at least one case every month.
Getting the second dose in September, have already put in vacation time because the first one had me suffering with joint pain.
I’m a bit disappointed here in the UK…I’m like Schrödinger’s shingles vax patient - both too old to get it and yet not old enough yet…unless I opt to pay for it of course 🤔🧐
Checking in. Had it already near my eye. Didn't want to risk it again.
My HMO automatically added it to my "upcoming vaccinations and test" the day I turned 50. First shot kicked my ass, second shot not so much. My grandmother got shingles in her late 80s or early 90s and she was in a ton of pain, I really don't want to repeat that.
Had it, knocked me on my ass, got back up. Had the second round, knocked me on my ass, got back up. No regrets.
Same. The relief I feel knowing I won’t have to suffer shingles cannot be overstated.
some confusion due to changes here in the UK I am 65 so eligible had my first one last month second due in December hubby is 67 he's not eligible till 70 bonkers
Thanks for the reminder! Just scheduled the first one.
As soon as I turned 50 I was standing at the Doctors office with my sleeve rolled up! Have seen the pain, up front, nothing to fool with!
I received a two part vaccine, and then was told there was a newer one that was a single injection and should just get it, anyway, so here we are. No side effects. Also, no side effects, and (most importantly), no side effects.
Hmmm.. im halfway through part one. Got my 1st the other day and had a lovely nap yesterday though, which was a bonus.
Yes, Shingrix 2x when I was still in my 50s, and Zostavax more recently because I am, like, totes old now in my early 60s.
got it! sore arm for longer than expected with that one.
Had the second shot a few weeks ago. They weren't kidding when they said the side effects of the second shot were worse. Still vastly preferable to the alternative. (And pleasantly surprised that my crappy insurance covered it.)
I've had shingles TWICE now due to stress (I'm 39) and they refuse to give me the vaccine. :/
No, I did all this research and Dr. Google advised me not to. Oh, wait, that was my idiot MAGA neighbor who had a nasty case last winter. I got the shot as soon as I was eligible.
GET THAT HEALTH!
Got my 2nd about a month ago.
Not old enough for the vaccine myself, but I have had shingles so recommend everyone gets jabbed.
A couple more days and I will be eligible.
This applies to Germany. The statutory health insurance pays: Recommended for people aged 60 and over. All persons aged 50 and over whose immune system is weakened (e.g. due to illness, etc. ) all persons aged 50 and over with a serious underlying condition (e.g. chronic lung disease (COPD) etc.
For me, the side effects were hardly noticeable the second time. I'm glad that this vaccination is available. I had to experience with my mum how bad shingles can be 😳
Was thinking of getting that. Need to get a shift on before I get my buss pass next year.
Had mine 19 years ago. Got shingles last year Getting the damn new one.
UK is definitely not 50+. There is an advert for it but it says it's for over 70s, but if you turn 65 this year you can have it too? Not sure if that's a confusing way of saying over 65s can have it?? Anyway I'm still too young 😉 even though my Nan had shingles aged 62 and hubby got it in his 40s 😡
I am in the UK and in the strange position of being both too young and too old for the vaccine! I had Shingles last year and don't want it again grrr.
You can get a vaccine for shingles?!?!? *phones dr*
They recommend you get it when you turn 50
Well, I’m a bit young for that but since I had shingles myself a few months ago with horrid after effects I’m still going to see if I can get vaccinated. Thanks Duncan!
We have to wait while we are 65 😕
Couldn’t get a prescription for my health insurance to pay for it, so forked out £180 to get it done privately at Superdrug a couple of years ago. No regrets and no side-effects.
Not sure if you want to hear from women; but I had the jab at 65 and experienced no side-effects at all, other than the usual slightly stiff upper arm for a day or so.
Why wouldn't I!? Getting old is an equal opportunity adventure!
I wasn't sure if women count as silver foxes!
It was a 2 parter & not at all a picnic. But my Mom got shingles when I was a teen & it was really bad (inner ear).- ended up in hospital. To this day I think it was a contributor to her getting Parkinson’s . Choosing the vaccine series was easy. Prep to feel like crap for a day, then it’s done
Guilty x
Hmmmm better look Into that…
No but I did get shingles and that’s how I felt.
👋
😂
😂
Define ‘OLD PEOPLE’
Not allowed it here until you’re 65, which they’ve just reduced it to. But if you’re already over 65 you have to wait until 70. So logical 🙄
W00t! Vaccines FTW!
Side effect: it may protect you against dementia.
Amen brother
What age are you supposed to do that? I had chicken pox as a kid so I will def need it.
50
4 more years then. I’m not scared of shots tho. And had no side effects to the two covid shots I had.
:D After a co-worker got them and explained how much pain she was in and all the issues, I went right away - I was like NO WAY do I need to deal with that!
Had my series a couple of years ago. Not bad at all for me (just a bit of achy after 2nd shot) but I used it as an excuse to sit on my couch for a day and binge watch LOTR extended edition. Aragorn-approved behavior!!
Haha! Excellent use of opportunity!
Yup, us too. 😊
It did wonders for my 5G reception
Those shingles aren’t gonna get me
Saw my first shingles vaccine ad while I was getting over shingles.
Had mine last year. Free for 70+ in the U.K. 😀
I got the first shot in 2009, eight years later I came down with shingles but a very mild case. I made sure to get the improved version. My mama didn't raise dummies.
🙌🏻🙌🏻
Old people, my daughter got it at 19!!??? I did think it was an old people thing, but according to the doc and pharmacist, nope.
Hah! Well my doc said i was due when i turned 50, so take it up with them! 😅
Word up! 55 and got first half in April; I get the follow-up later this month. (First vaccine I've had in my life that made me sick, btw–flu-like symptoms for two days.)
Had my first 1 two days ago and slept through a chunk of yesterday. Feel good today though, and am going to PUMP IRON, like a proper soldier.
It's very expensive 😔
Do you have health insurance? Mine was free, if you can afford it though it’s worth it, my friend is suffering 7 mega after getting shingles, the nerves on her stomach are in constant pain…7 mths of it
Not covered on my HI.....and it's 550 euro. I know it would be worth it though.
Oh yikes that’s ridiculous
It's free in Italy!
😭😭😭😭 it should be free or at least cheaper
Sorry, I hadn't initially thought that the OP might be in the USA. I know how lucky we are here: after not having any vaccinations since an exotic holiday c.30 years ago, I've had 16 in the last 4 years - all free. Europeans find it very hard to understand why many Americans think this is dangerous.
Now THAT's how we do it!
