Only *certain* people thought it wasn't possible. Those of us who know what this country has always been were unsurprised AND also voted for her at the highest % despite many misgivings. There is ONE demographic responsible for this, and you probably sit at holiday dinners with it to this day.

I’ve been in this a long time. It’s easy to fight for an ideal when your basic rights aren’t at risk. Thinking the enemy is the one opposing tyranny will always shock me.
I was the age of the kids getting called superpredators at the time. It was super difficult for me to pull the lever for Hillary, but I did it anyway. Because we, unlike y'all, know what a group project looks like. Btw principled white folks always get more flack from y'all than the chuds.
I say all of this in good faith because we need each other. But the fact of the matter is that you have been misled into thinking the path forward is trusting in politicians who have been bought and paid for by the same corporations destroying our air and water and dropping bonds. I'm sorry.
Also, right wingers are idealists all the time. That's how they make shit happen. They believe in a version of the world and they fight like hell to make that happen. That's how they win, not by playing the middle.

I vote with my heart in the primary, against corporate politicians, but I believe the Dem party will be the better route for basis rights and liberties. I’ll back a Dem, any Dem, with everything I have, Everytime.
In a binaristic world where those are the only political options, sure. I have voted in every single election, big & small, up & down the ballot for decades. But that's not where change ever comes from in reality. It comes from groups like the BP, & from the People actually fighting year round.
The reason that we have school lunches, free clinics, and other stuff that actually helps has nothing to do with politicians. Everything from LGBTQ rights to the 40-hour work week to women's rights did not come from the ballot box; they came from people power. Politicians like HRC just get paid.
But like we said from the outset, the biggest fight is in the hearts/minds of the white peer group. And that's work I cannot do. That is on y'all, & most liberals spend their time being upset at a sliver of voters than they are at conservative counterparts. That's why we are where we are.
I'm older than I look & I've been Black my whole life. What some of y'all call opposing tyranny means more torture for the rest of us. It's not idealism: you can't let anyone suffer, or it always bounces back. You protect the weakest or you protect no one, in the end.
