Car leases aren’t always the best financial decision. And $30k is not something I can shake out of my couch cushions. There’s also the cost of insurance. And I have nfc what maintenance is - no oil changes, but is mileage-based maintenance more?
My insurance cost is the same. 3 years in no maintenance. First major maintenance will be 60k miles, just brake fluid. Not pads and rotors, just the fluid. You have some great questions. This link might have a lot of the answers you are looking for: interactive.carbonbrief.org/factcheck/el...
Thank you! I’m lucky enough to live in a place where our 2nd car is about to be an ebike (had to literally bike shed first, once it’s built the ebike gets bought….I’ve test driven a few from our free ebike library already). But this is great to know when our primary car gives up the ghost :)
That’s awesome. E-bikes are fantastic. The EV switch was a massive mental shift. I had no idea how much of my brain was devoted to thinking about oil changes & tune ups in my gas cars. EVs just don’t need much. First time I should need brake pads is 120k miles! It will take me 14 years to hit that
I agree those in the market for a new car should take a hard look at EVs. But I don’t agree we should try to convince or shame any one person to make a decision that isn’t right for them.
🤷♂️ I think Scalzi could have made that decision in private. But he put it out there for conversation.
He’s not looking for a car tho. The OP was a quote tweet about why every gas station doesn’t have a charger.
