I saw 28 Years Later the other day (pretty good!) and I'm curious - do Americans know who Jimmy Savile was?

Dunno, but—That ending got me thinking about younger viewer—and why Danny Boyle is so subversive here. A younger viewer might ask—who the hell would make a cult around Savile? Well, 28 years earlier... Deffo hits the bullseye!
That's a good point. Somehow it hadn't occured to me that his crimes might not have been uncovered in the series' timeline! Definitely still got Bad Vibes from that gang regardless.
I read it as clever jab at those who actually did make a cult of Savile. Contemporary documentary deal with the silencing of victims and whistle-blowers. And an establishment in thrall. Boyle very much holding up a mirror to those who knew. Or I may just be overthinking a bit of very dark humour
Well it would fit with some of the 'sending your kids off to war' stuff from earlier in the film.
