I think it comes down to Britain being a coloniser, ergo all the good food Must be Stolen, whereas the US was a colony, so all good food was brought by choice.

The US is also absolutely a coloniser, they took control of many former European colonies immediately after WW2, and colonised Hawaii (overthrowing their royal family). Also the whole Panama, Cuba, Vietnam, and Korea thing...
