An idea….

_natashadevon 'We're not allowed to talk about immigration!' they screech as the newspapers, television, radio and some politicians' mouths are full of nothing BUT immigration chat. What do they mean? Do they mean 'we'd like freedom to be even more xenophobic than we are currently without backlash or condemnation'? The far right are dragging the Overton window into 1930s Germany territory using this technique - so maybe rather than trying to reason with them and allowing them to spew their lies and disinformation, furthering the already widespread belief that all refugees are pampered criminals, we should just.... Talk about something else. Here's some ideas for what we could talk about - corporate greed and corruption; - reigning in tech oligarchs; - stopping climate change; - narrowing the gap between rich and poor; - the invisible menace that is neoliberalism; - Palestine; - how if you don't like 'foreigners' you shouldn't be allowed to eat Asian inspired food, listen to music of Black origin or watch any films with Jewish directors. But people are furiously looking for a distraction on a dinghy. Apparently farage has the answers, five deportation flights a day. Given that he hates every country that isn't putin or trump. Which country will allow illegal flights through airspace?

Spot on. My radio is switched off as soon as I hear the same old tiresome presenter, or guest, with no facts allowed to chat rubbish, with no comeback. Divide & Rule style, whilst pretending to be impartial.

I've given up on listening to live news broadcasts. My radio listening is BBC's back catalogue on iplayer or podcasts. Daily I glance at some of the news apps & read the headlines only, which tells me enough. My view is that we get far too much news these days. I don't have to hear it all.
