Glasner has a job to do, he has to do what’s in Palace’s best interests. I’m sure he doesn’t want to stand in Guehi’s way but that’s secondary to the team overall. This isn’t his fault, it’s on the club not getting Glasner a replacement sorted.
Exactly this. Guehi is clearly a staple to his team, and it’s easy to understand why he’d not want to let him go if there’s not true plan for a replacement.
At the risk of sounding biased, I’m not convinced it’s in CPFC’s interests. Guehi now leaves for free, costing the club £35mil, all because Glasner threatened to leave because *he* failed to find a replacement. All for what? For Glasner to leave at the end of the year anyway? Really poor form imo.
Not necessarily. Glasner might decide to stay because Parish supported him 🤷♂️ Regardless, Glasner is still the manager now and his job is to get results for Crystal Palace first and foremost. I really don’t think he wanted to stop Guehi but had to with no replacement.
True, may well be that he stays in which case it seems more fair to me. Time will tell. I do think he was intent on stopping Guehi to be honest though. But I suppose that’s all speculation from the outside looking in
Honestly, I’d prefer a player who was more aligned with LFC’s value of inclusivity. Guehi is a good player. And whether or not Glasner killed the deal; he wanted to keep his player. Guehi seems to be completely fine w/ staying. And maybe he leaves in January? We don’t know what the future holds.
What about Alisson or Gakpo? He does seem fine with staying but I imagine it was a difficult day after all yesterday 😅 he’s acted like the model professional throughout. Would love it if we grabbed him for free even in the summer!
To be clear, I have no problem with people proudly representing their religion. As far as I can remember, neither of them used their religion in the same way. There are implications behind what he did. There’s no way he didn’t understand that.
It’s a tough one for sure, obviously homophobia has no place at the club (or anywhere for that matter) I think social media created a bigger issue than it was. He felt compelled to wear what he wore, so be it. As is his right. He never said anything homophobic, as far as I know anyway
So what is the value to Palace of keeping him. His cost is the loss of £35m and his wages. His value could be what - well you have to pay at least £35m to replace him, probably more. But how many games will they win because of him, cups, eyeballs = sponsorship money. Will he now possibly re-sign?
But ultimately losing Glasner could cost them way more than £35m. He’s an elite manager. Right now 20 clubs would sign him, bigger clubs than Palace, so what is the worth of a manager who won them an FA Cup and a community shield. It’s not as simple as painted.
Managers are in a different position to players they can just walk away from their job and walk into another. Glasner by all accounts has got 1 year left and so far refused to sign an extension offer, so how can he ask for same loyalty when it’s more than likely he won’t be there next year himself?
🎯
He doesn’t have to, he just has to do his job to the best of his ability during his tenure. I’d expect a Liverpool manager to put Liverpool ahead of an individual player if he had to. Parish made the decision to stick with his manager over the player ultimately.
I agree he has to do what is in CPFC’s interests, this isn’t just about letting a player do what he wants (ironically 😅) I think he’s harmed CPFC’s interests. Costing the club millions for a player that leaves for free next year (while he himself will likely leave as well)…where are Palace then?
Well to start a minimum of £35m out of pocket, plus whatever it could take to get a replacement player and manager. This could in the long run cost Palace over £70m. Parishbis usually known for a calculated approach to business but this time his heart has ruled his head /wallet
He’s not asking for loyalty. He’s looking at the impact he needs in the club, and Guehi is part of that impact. It’s a business. I’m all for not forcing a player to stay if they’re adamant, but Guehi clearly seems okay with staying, as he himself has stated.
I massively respect what Glasner did. The club left him a day to replace their Captain. Everyone knew Liverpool wanted him, sell him in June and give the club time to buy a replacement. They played a game of brinkmanship and look stupid. He’s a manager of principal.
