I tried to explain this to youngsters all the time they have no idea what it was like when I was in my 20s and 30s here in the 70s 80s and 90s we were lucky when there were only five murders a day
And you know what? I was living in Hell’s Kitchen in 1990, and I felt perfectly safe the vast majority of the time, and never once had a bad experience on the subway.
