Former Home Secretaries David Blunkett & Jack Straw have advocated for rewriting parts of it to make deportations easier. This has then been blown up by the media and commentators as “Labour’s position”. It’s just part of August madness, when recession is on & bored political journos make stuff up
Ok Thx. However, I think tinkering with ECHR is dangerous because even if the reason might seem reasonable to some, the tinkering with ECHR invites other less accountable politicians to tinker with it too. It’s a BAD idea.
So do I (so do Labour). These are the (likely misrepresented) views of old white men who’ve had single instances of bad/annoying cases & judgements. Labour aren’t parroting reform deporting many people, and doing it properly, so that the ECHR isn’t an impediment. So it doesn’t require changing
