Cuomo had the endorsements, the money, and the party machine behind him. But Zohran Mamdani had a coalition that cut across age, race, and boroughs—and it carried him to victory in NYC's mayoral primary. Now, Democrats are asking: is Mamdani’s win a one-off or a model for the party’s future?

More like they are terrified it's the future. There's a reason Cuomo had the party endorsements. Before I get called out for this, I'll just say Democrats need to prove money is not what drives them. Mamdani won the primary nomination as a Democrat. So logically, we should unify, right?

This should be the model for the Dems. Not every candidate would be like Mamdani or promote the same policies. What plays in NYC won't be the same as what plays in Des Moines. Dems need to offer what what voters want: candidates who care more about people than they do about policies.

It was 4.5%, almost 7m popular vote. That’s a healthy margin, compared to 1.1% for Trump in 2024 (that was probably stolen but I digress). Mamdani activists are very explicit about their desire to kick out everyone they deem “normal” or “centrist” out of the party.

2/2 . HRC’s loss was a complicated issue, by and large because feckless press, FBI and Russians either conspired outright or played along. Coulda Bernie won that ? Maybe. For the same reasons Harris couldn’t - some - many - people won’t vote for a woman. It’s a handicap. Ignoring it is perilous.

If the establishment would get out of his way, they would be surprised to see the blatant truth so many of them have spent their careers actively ignoring: When you work to improve the material conditions of your constituents, you win elections. It really is that easy.

Unbought. That's uncommon, but if we can get ENOUGH honest people to oppose money in elections, we might get a more truly representative government that wants to actually GOVERN according to our Constitution rather than to donor demands for quid pro quo. The money has already spoken: now's OUR turn.
