4/ Why? Because Putin would know - for sure this time - that Trump is going to allow him to win the war. Because if Putin thumbs his nose again at a peace deal, and then Trump STILL refuses to help Ukraine, then Putin knows Trump has given him the green light.
5/ Is there a scenario where Ukraine can still hold up against Russia without U.S. weapons or support? Yes - underestimating Ukrainian courage is a bad bet. But let's be honest: it's not easy. And Putin knows this. Without U.S. support, Putin has NO reason to quit.
6/ If this meeting passes with no deal, no tough sanctions and no new major military support for Ukraine, then Trump has essentially made this his war. He has assured it will continue, and likely slowly but methodically go Putin's way. A huge moral and strategic loss for America.
The countries of Europe should show the starch in their jeans by sending humanitarian support to Ukraine and telling Mr Putin any further attacks would be an act of war. Stop him. Stop Trump in DC.

One fundamental reality of American foreign policy historically is that we honor agreements and treaties made, even if we didn't make them. That the deals are made with the USA as a state, not with a specific administration. This is a norm Trump has routinely undermined.
