3/ None of this is normal. If Republicans continue to view themselves as Trump's employees, instead of an independent branch charged with checking runaway executive power, the damage to our democracy will be fatal.

Just remember that when you are back in the majority, use this against them.
And what exactly does your floor speech accomplish Senator Murphy? No one in Congress is even present, much less listening.
Dems need to fight with every legal op they have. Pritzker and Newsome are.
Biden had a chance to change Senate rules and failed to ask for consideration of it. Sadly kamala stayed loyal and never got a chance to correct one of his many mistakes
Biden had no such chance. Manchin and Sinema would never have gone along with that
And they should have brought the motion to force them to show their loyalties. Manchin did give a few votes needed to get some judges in but he should have been called on to show himself and force the Dems to support a primary to him
They don't care. We are done.
You and everyone else need to realize our democracy is already dead.
He as good as says it
Nothing to be done then, we have no responsibility for anything now..?
Democrats are still trying to play by the rules the GQP no longer bother following. Rules that are in place to serve as guardrails in a functioning democracy. You can do or say what you want but when one party ignores the laws/checks and balances in place, you no longer have a democracy.
Every single thing that Trump is doing that is illegal. Has to be documented and saved for future references and the same with every single person that is supposed to be representing the people. I hope you're documenting their crimes as well, they are not doing the job they are paid to do
Censure thune and expel him
Yes this applies only to non cabinet and judicial (I think) but it’s a bullshit move
Still though if democrats take the senate then they can undo this nuclear option move
It’s not the rule change is permanent, it can always be changed
Whom would they replace him with?
Your friends across the aisle are not your friends.
Stop funding the government. Stop giving him money.
Killing our democracy seems to be their goal doesn’t it?!
So can the Dems emulate Texas’ Democrats and walk out, deny quorum? At least you could deny the GOP its budget.
That would be a smart move but then Thune would nuke the cloture requirements. He needs to be expelled and censured for his little stunt.
No one watches Senate activities. Have press conferences on the capital steps every day every day every day.
To be fair, Harry Reid (former D-Utah) opened crack in door by allowing majority vote instead of 2/3 votes for cloture on judicial nominees. McConnell warned him & did same thing on Supreme Court nominees. That’s how we got 3 Trump justices. Only good thing is future Dem Prez can now use same rules.
Stop blaming Dems for this. The Republicans would have done it anyway at some point. They will do anything to get what they want and will never reciprocate Dems' overtures of bipartisanship.
Not blaming Dems at all just giving historical perspective. This is called ”nuclear option” & prior to Harry Reid in 2013, it had never been used: that’s how sacred cloture (i.e. filibuster) is in Senate. Reid was desperate b/c Repubs were blocking all Obama’s judges even though Dems were majority.
Sorry if I misinterpreted.
Oh, no, I wasn‘t offended at all. I didn’t express everything clearly initial comment.
I like how we can have misunderstandings on here and not devolve. It's so nice to see rational folk. 🖤
Definitely! Never happens on that other cesspool of a site!
Dems considered ending filibuster altogether when controlled Senate under Biden but didn’t have the votes with Manchin & Sinema plus knew if they did this they’d be handing Repubs gift if they retook Senate. Repubs have won short-term victory here but not long-term one.
Nuclear option always has potential to blow up in face of party suggesting it.
What can we do? STOP the COUP!! Remove all treasonous politicians politicians! 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
How?
the U.S. Constitution addresses the removal of treasonous politicians through the impeachment process. Article II, Section 4 specifies that the President, Vice President, and other civil officers can be impeached and removed from office for treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.
But you have to have a majority in Congress to do that. It may take a few years. Take the House in the midterms and hope the Senate does their job.
Who's going to impeach them? All three branches are ruled by #MAGAts including the SCOTUS
And what will you do about it? Your speeches on the floor are sound, but they also do nothing to stop what's happening.
Isn’t this unconstitutional?? It seems to defy the Three Equal Branches of Government??
Of course it's unconstitutional. If the powers that be intentionally sidestep the law, what recourse do the defenders of democracy have when they have none of the levers of power?
Chris, this has been the Republican Reich Wing Dream for decades. I remember when I was part of the Young Republicans 25 years ago, the talk was about "if only we had a strong leader who could do ABC." They've been planning this for FIFTY YEARS. Our only option is divorce, I fear.
2/ Trump blames Dems for Kirk's murder, though it was a Trumpanzee. Use it. Form a group of strong speakers & a great speechwriter, take a page from Churchill's book for rallying people against propaganda & televise 4-minute high-road speeches to the public as needed www.google.com/search?q=win...
