Autistic people are brilliant actors, masking and mirroring is a skill learnt at a young age in order to 'fit in'. But it does lead to burnout due to its huge emotional and physical toll.

Anthony Hopkins is autistic!
Hollywood actors could learn a few things from us and they don't have to do it for any amount of time, except Leonardo you know that mother fucker, I'm guessing it's autistic
There was an amazing feisty little girl I used to teach. True she was a fidgeter and a dreamer but so bloody what. The feistyness is seen as problem. One more reason I retired as quick as I could.
Thats such a shame, teachers who can see past 'annoying' behaviours should be lauded.
Quite partial to a naughty kid. It’s character. Some of the ones I taught had such awful lives I quite admired that they still had fight left in them.
Same here. Despite the burnout and like you couldn't wait to retire I know I can be proud of 'saving' a fair few. I'm sure you did too.
❤️
I know what you mean 👍
I learned, as you describe, 50 years before I was diagnosed. But my unconscious learning (to mask) resulted in my masking abilities being limited and ineffective. 😓
Yeah, putting on a “game face” shirt r a “mask” in public, then it comes off when we’re home. But yes, I’m facing burnout, and still grinding it out.
Take care lovely ❤️
