Yes, thats always been my argument, it was never that I couldn't learn, it was that I wanted to learn at my pace and about subjects that interested me.
I definitely was 😉 I did the first year of secondary school and then became a serial truant, I left with no qualifications, I didn't even sit any exams. Thankfully its improving but its awfully slow.
Autistic people are brilliant actors, masking and mirroring is a skill learnt at a young age in order to 'fit in'. But it does lead to burnout due to its huge emotional and physical toll.

I hope she does too, she was very nervous. She's doing secondary, she doesn't intend to do in person teaching in the future, rather online tutoring work but she still has to do the training in person. Who knows maybe she'll change her mind after the course.

My Daughter started back at Uni today, first day of her PGCE, she hasn't officially finished her Masters yet but that didn't stop her. She's autistic with anxiety but she doesn't let it rule her. I am incredibly proud of her. Fuck you RFK.

Leo Kanner and Hans Asperger were both describing autism but from different ends of the spectrum. Had the second world war not happened then the spectrum would have been discovered decades earlier.
The term autism was pinched by Leo Kanner in 1943 from Eugene Bleuler, who had coined it to describe some of the traits of his Schizophenic patients in 1911.

Its the difference between Leo Kanner's description and Asperger's. It led to the discovery of the spectrum, same condition but from different angles.
Aspergers & Autism were thought to have been separate conditions, until Dr Lorna Wing asked her Husband to translate Hans Asperger's original 1944 paper. That translation led to the discovery of the spectrum. Leo Kanner & Asperger were describing the same condition.
'High functioning autism' is not a clinical diagnosis. Put simply it just means some of us can hide very well in a neurotypical crowd.
