Had a family member who rented a car from them that also broke down and had to be towed away. Hertz then lost track of it and reported it stolen and had the police issue a warrant for their arrest for stealing it so would save the documentation if possible.

I have heard about this kind of thing—actually had it happen to me when I had to unexpectedly return a rental to another location. I’ve saved all of the paperwork and took pics of the car being towed!
