I am grateful for colleagues and friends around the world who are participants in planetary defense and planetary science. I am hopeful that American scientists will continue to do our part, but I can't predict the future. Either way, the asteroids will keep orbiting and folks will keep watch.

Glad that at least they're not wasting the incredible opportunity of the Apophis close approach. Any chance they redirect it to the US and put us out of our misery?

It's much, much easier to deflect an asteroid away than hit a target with it. This is 100% for the best.
