I am horrified to learn that Muhammad Zahid Chaudhry was detained by ICE during a scheduled immigration appointment. While we’re still waiting for details, it’s not lost on me that Zahid and Melissa have been outspoken in their advocacy for Palestinian people.

Using ICE to silence people who speak up for Palestinians is despicable and must not be tolerated. I last saw the Chaudhrys at a rally for school funding in Olympia this spring where Melissa spoke. They were there with their new baby.
I can’t imagine how hard this is for Melissa, Zahid, and their two children. I’m holding them in my thoughts and sending love and solidarity.
I call on our elected officials to join the fight for Zahid’s immediate release, along with all other people illegally detained by ICE. Seattleites: join me in calling & emailing the Dept. of Homeland Security and NW Detention Center to demand Zahid’s release and naturalization.
