Seattleites love their summers, but it’s a little more complicated for parents. What if we had universal summer care for all children in Seattle? This isn’t a pie in the sky idea. We can make Seattle a great place for working families.
Earlier this week, the City’s Office of Labor Standards got a huge victory for workers. In a statement, Mayor Bruce Harrell was effusive in his support for OLS and workers’ rights. Let’s look back at a few of his other interactions with the department in recent years.
Kroger says it’s closing stores because of retail crime or high wages. But it’s really about one thing: corporate greed. I am excited to work with UFCW 3000 on their Fresh Food for All campaign to ensure that all neighborhoods in our city have access to healthy food and medicine.

I had a great time meeting with Lady Scribe and Abdi Jama, talking about how the City can better protect immigrants and work with leaders in Seattle’s Black communities to build economic security and resilience.
I call on our elected officials to join the fight for Zahid’s immediate release, along with all other people illegally detained by ICE. Seattleites: join me in calling & emailing the Dept. of Homeland Security and NW Detention Center to demand Zahid’s release and naturalization.
I can’t imagine how hard this is for Melissa, Zahid, and their two children. I’m holding them in my thoughts and sending love and solidarity.
Using ICE to silence people who speak up for Palestinians is despicable and must not be tolerated. I last saw the Chaudhrys at a rally for school funding in Olympia this spring where Melissa spoke. They were there with their new baby.
I am horrified to learn that Muhammad Zahid Chaudhry was detained by ICE during a scheduled immigration appointment. While we’re still waiting for details, it’s not lost on me that Zahid and Melissa have been outspoken in their advocacy for Palestinian people.

Ballot count update: Katie Wilson is now up 9.5 points on incumbent Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell, as late returns continue to break her way. She has 50.7% of the primary vote, giving her a decided edge in a general election face-off with Harrell.
Katie Wilson now has 50.7% in the Seattle mayor's race; incumbent Bruce Harrell has 41.2. AND, in the latest batch of votes that were counted (late votes, generally younger/more progressive), Wilson has 58% to Harrell's 35%—the earliest mail-in votes were the most pro-Harrell.

Absolute bedlam at Katie Wilson’s party when news spread that she is in the *lead* on election night with 46%. Once all votes are counted in coming days it’s possible she breaks 50%. Seattle is ready for @wilsonforseattle.bsky.social!
The mood is jubilant at Katie Wilson's primary election night party. Wilson is leading Harrell 46.2% to 44.8% in early results.
One of the most effective things you can do is relational organizing – talking to your friends and colleagues about Katie. There are trainings online weekly and tons of other ways to get involved.
Tonight, we got results that were even better than we hoped, and it’s likely to only get better. Seattle, you showed up! It’s clear that voters want change. This is your city. Join the campaign, and let’s get this done!
