So today, my bathroom was repainted (French vanilla) courtesy of building management. Vera was in hiding the entire day, and is now sleeping. I can pry open the drawers painted closed, tomorrow.

I almost agreed with you after 10 minutes of fighting with it using a putty knife. After 20 minutes and much abusive language, and one good solid hit, it came free. Life has returned to normal.
