Amazing they haven't noticed more. Not only does this bill as scrawled out on napkins add huge amounts of debt, it is likely that when the biggest cuts are set to happen, the political pressure will get too heavy and they will not occur. That is good for Medicaid but means $1 trillion more in debt

No argument about why republican debt hand wringing is worthy of rolling eyes, but a couple things to consider: the national debt to GDP ratio has been above 77% since 2009 and grown steadily, and we haven’t had a surplus budget since Bush squandered it. Dems being marginally better isn’t enough.

The national debt is $36.6 trillion. Depending on which estimate you choose, the Republican budget is projected to increase the national debt by between $3 trillion to $4 trillion over 10 years. That means that the interest on the debt will grow significantly, putting pressure on other budget areas.

During the first Trump administration, the GOP added 7.8 trillion to the debt. During the second term 3.4+ more. Of the total 36 trillion in US debt, 11+ trillion was added by the GOP during Trump terms. If they ever mentioned that that just laugh at them and walk away, they're not serious

And reversing the recent absurd increase in funding for ICE would be another step in the right direction. But further cuts will still be necessary. We likely need to increase taxes on upper income Americans, and to slightly increase the age at which individuals can start collecting Medicare.

Reversing the recent reconciliation bill's permanent extension of lower tax rates for the top 5% of taxpayers would be a good start, but isn't sufficient. Another round of base closings would also help, as would repealing the yet to be implemented provisions reducing taxation of tips and overtime.

You know, some of this is the electorate and not Congress. Can’t you writers see this? Younger generations after GenX do not care as much about money. More people are being laid off and downsized. More younger folks are not looking for work in a job market that only rewards the most competitive.
