With what row are people thinking. We’re already reserving two tracks for freight for a freight tunnel that won’t ever happen…

The super cynic in me thinks the local NIMBYs are lining up a way to try and kill it

Hopefully we have left anti-transit NIMBYism in the past, given how much crime has fallen, and how property values now are much more closely correlated with transit access than they were. Like I’d be surprised if more than 20% of New Yorkers could tell you who Bernie Goetz was.

Land value both in DC and NYC is basically a straight “how many feet are you from the metro” at this point with some small perturbations.

All land in NYC is many, many feet from the metro. 😝🦊

You can take metro to be a globalized version of subway in this case. If it makes you feel better I often say I live near the subway.

No, I use metro a lot too when writing for a global audience. Just jokingly defending my NY heritage.

I remember a DC local being offended when I asked directions to the subway. But he did give me the directions.

Relationship is probably even stronger against express subway stops

Yeah, the NIMBYs of Central Queens actually prefer Queenslink to Queensway. QW means outsiders can go into and out of their neighborhoods on bikes, QL gives neighborhood residents subway access to Manhattan.

Are you referring to the freight tunnel under the harbor from Elizabeth to Brooklyn? Because my theory is that will get built after the BQE collapses.

Bingo. If it’s built tunnel costs will have to go down by half.
