Maine has a neat system for state elections. Pledge to take only local small donors and all donations up to $20/donor are matched by state funds. It's a start.

That is part of what I am talking about it still leads the door open for corruption. You are right though it is a start but let me tell you we have seen recently here in NYC some ways around that w/people seeking favor w/the mayor have had employees make huge campaign donations then pay them back.
Yeah, it's a start though. In a perfect world....what? You get enough signatures to qualify as a candidate and then everyone in that race receives the same X dollars to spend, with a gov mandated price per service received for that money? Alternative?
Sound good to me. Take out the corporations, the super PACs, the extremely wealthy paying to have THEIR agendas railroaded through congress. I don’t care what SCOUTS says corporations are NOT people but in affect they are not following the 1 citizen, 1 vote ethos of the constitution.
Limit donors to a very modest cap, say $500. No end runs around the system with super PACs, finally, abolish professionnel lobbying.
Absolutely we need to get the money out of our political system all it does is enable the opportunities to rig it. It’s not voter ID, it’s not mail in ballots, it’s the money plain & simple.
Absolutely agree. Individual voter fraud is a teeny tiny drop in the bucket of election frauds; money is the rest of the bucket.
Have you ever worked at the polls on Election Day? I have. At least here in NY it’s beyond impossible to commit voter fraud. If your name isn’t on the rolls when you go & you insist you are given a provisional ballot. If it doesn’t pan out in an investigation it doesn’t get counted. There you go!
But Matt, think about all those lobbyist that would be unemployed! 😂 Super PACs are really one of the dumbest things ever developed. I mean, super smart if you're trying to buy a government, but dumb regarding functional democracy.
