Big deal. You can watch music videos 24/7/365 on Vivo, Xite, Ditty TV and even MTV channels on Pluto. #MusicSky

I remember when MTV started (God I feel really old saying that) but I don't think I watched it much even after the mid 90s or earlier. Even by then it was shite.

Yeah. We had cable in NJ when we were there from 1980-1982, but when we lived in NM and TX, we didn't. When the family moved up to PA in 1992, we had cable and my sister would watch MTV constantly but by that time, I wasn't interested. My tastes had changed by then and was watching VH1, which

was more adult contemporary. Now I am just rediscovering good music with indie radio stations (see my "Radio Stations That Don't Suck" posts). The trade off of these streaming music video channels are is you get tagged with ads after two videos.

I never had MTV when I was younger. I got my music video fix back then with syndicated shows like Top 40 Videos, This Week's Music, Hot, Music Magazine and America Rocks. But there was a reason why those shows were canceled after a few seasons. Ratings. Advertisers looked at Arbitron ratings

and Arbitron goes in 30 minute blocks. It is the same thing that happened to V66 in Boston. MTV was just able to hold out longer, and then all of the sudden, they struck gold with The Real World. Now don't think for one second that I am defending MTV. I miss those days when I would go to someone's

house and watch MTV. The good news is that there are streaming music video channels and you can go to YouTube to watch any video you want. They should really just change the name of the channel since it is just endless blocks of Ridiculousness. They should do the same for VH1 as well.

Even when digital subchannels like The Tube and Cool TV came onto the scene, they failed. That's too bad since I liked The Tube.

Yes, it's anything but music videos now so the name makes no sense anymore. Does anyone even watch it anymore? I know when we had satellite TV, we quit watching it once videos totally disappeared.

That's the trend, dontcha know? Keep the initials, ditch the full name. A&E is not Arts & Entertainment, TLC is not The Learning Channel, IFC is not Independent Film Channel, AMC is not American Movie Classics, VH1 is not Video Hits One, and MTV is not Music Television. HBO is still Home Box Office.
