It would be weird. It's not Uhura, it's just a white person in a red skant- Janice Rand maybe or just another crewperson. It's like a bald, white dude trying to cosplay Ben Sisko- nope, sorry dude, you're Picard.

Ok so it’s a “how it’s not going to ressemble the character enough to be read as is” question for you?
Forgive me I'm not understanding what you are asking. My fault soory.
Ok, I've seen your responses to others and I think I know what you are asking. If I attend a convention and I see a white person in a red skant that has lieutenant stripes. I'm not going to automatically think Uhura. If they tell me that's what they are attempting then that's down to them as....
... long as appropriating hairstyles or anything else from other cultures. As I see it, there are so many characters in Trek that people should be able to cosplay as someone it should not be necessary.
I should say I don't cosplay myself any longer due to trouble I had being mocked about my weight. It happened too many times so I stopped. So feel free to ignore my opinion. 🖖 It ss a very important topic and needs talking about.
I’m sorry, that’s fucked up. Trek fandom is usually pretty good at being nice and respectful of all cosplay. You should feel free to cosplay! Next time tell me and I’ll be your mean bodyguard.
Thanks. If i ever get to the US again for a con I'll let you know and dig out my Scotty uniform from storage.
YAY!!
