I think it's actually the reverse. I think you need more tankers forward due to the fighter demand. You can't get enough fighters far enough forward without significant tanker presence forward. Bomber range allows you to actually station tankers farther back.
Any reading you'd recommend on tanker logistics and refueling?
There used to be a great TRANSCOM pub on it with fuel planning numbers but it might require a cac now…. There is some decent doctrine stuff open source, and then the biggest one is just doing the math on how much gas you need for point a to point b (even based on wiki numbers)
