IF, and it’s a big IF, it is part of showing we can step away from oil (which we can surely agree, is not sustainable). I just can’t get my head around why people believe oil or gas companies. Or those who support them. They lie, do great damage, and there are other ways to increase revenue.
The fossil fuel industry has a lot more political clout than do us that care about our planet regrettably. We have two main tools at our disposal to help address the funding gap between renewable energy advocates and the fossil fuel industry. The first everyone has equally, a vote.
The second main tool at our disposal is different for everyone depending on their economic situation, but the goal is the same for everyone and that is to stop buying fossil fuels as fast as everyone possibly can.
I live rural, and we have seriously looked at Hyundai Ionique, because of it’s range, but the cost … yikes. Not in our budget, even with gas and oil change savings.
I actually wrote the PM about this last year. Rented an EV on Van Island, and liked it. But charging was a huge issue. Creating an inexpensive EV that is easy to use, with min 400k range, and allowing you to claim the home plug install at tax time, could help incredibly.
