Possibly unhinged food opinion: A pinch of cayenne pepper is good in tomato soup. It brings out the flavor.

I'm a fan of that, fresh cracked pepper and grated Parmesan on tomato soup. Just had that and grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner.
I also had tomato soup and grilled cheese for dinner! 🙌
My favorite comfort meal!
Vegan Tomato soup made with coconut milk...game changer
A touch of white pepper as well
Nothing remotely wrong with that.
This sounds really good!
I use it in my red sauces even if they are jarred pre mades it really makes pasta dishes taste so much better.
Been watching Chef John videos, have we?
Never heard of him till now, but sounds like he has the right idea!
The Chef John school of thought!
Lolz
I'd say a pinch (or more) of cayenne goes in just about any dish
Whyever would adding a bit of kick to soup be bad?
My best friend is from the Midwest, and she pretty much always thinks I’m unhinged when I reach for the cayenne, especially for stuff that isn’t traditionally spicy 😅
We tease my wife, because Mayo and Ranch are about as spicy as she can handle.
When Miracle Whip is too tangy…lol
This sounds delicious to me!
Try putting some lemon in your chicken soup if you haven’t already
Yes, all the difference in the world. Cocoa in your chili. Nutmeg in tomato sauce.
I added some round steak to season it with garlic salt and pepper, major mistake that stuff gets in the air and burns your throat
Use zaatar. Not a powder and not so sharp.
Not at all a bad idea. I usually do cayenne and a bit of smoked Spanish paprika.
You pretty much can’t go wrong with cayenne + smoked paprika.
Paprika is a top 5 spice, no question. Rub it in chicken or pork for some color and a bit of sweet. You can add it to anything that's missing something, and chances are paprika is it!
Ya but it needs to be smoked Hungarian paprika
On baby oven roasted potatoes ...
This is my move as well. Since I don't like tomatoes that much in the first place, so I usually also add any peppers I have on hand, but the cayenne + paprika mix add extra color and a little more punch.
I don’t dislike tomato but I’m picky about how it’s prepared and adding smoked paprika will win me over nearly every time
So, I've recently done a tomato soup that was heavily carrot, and it was more palatable to the folks I was cooking for who generally have an aversion to the acidity of tomato soup
Since I personally use a tablespoon of ground Bird’s Eye chili in mine with great result, I wholeheartedly agree with you. Oh and I mean in the pot. While cooking. Adding that much to a single portion would be… hot.
A pinch of cayenne works really well with so many things! I’ve always felt it’s like hot salt almost, in that if you use it right you can’t really tell it’s there, but the flavor of whatever you put it in is brighter and sharper
Yes! Brighter and sharper. That’s exactly it.
💯 recommend this. It’s also a very healthy spice. It’s like using pepper with turmeric
I like that or nutmeg just to zhuzh it up a little.
Ooo, I’ll have to try nutmeg sometime.
I use nutmeg in my potato leek soup with great reaults
That sounds good. The soup always seems kind of dull.
