IIRC this was actually very common at the time, and is a big part of the popularity of like "outcast kid against the world" manga that has influenced so much manga and anime since.
the insane faces are one of the best parts of Getter Robo
One of our heroes everyone.
there's a cool amount of genderbend yuri of this guy on tumblr
Why he look like Domon low-key
they both have similar personalities too!!! I need them to meet so bad I wonder if they do in a SRW.....
What did you think about the G Gundam episode where Master Asia picked me up and spun me around until I got dizzy??? I think it was some of my best work
The most popular Getter anime (Getter Robo Armageddon) had significant contribution from the guy who did G Gundam (Yasuhiro Imagawa) and would have even more if he wasn't sacked partway through for working slow I genuinely think G Gundam is in part a Getter tribute. Getter Gundam.
Ryoma and Domon being in the same game would've happened in SRW T most recently Ryoma is one of the single most frequently appearing characters in SRW games. You have to look at say, Amuro, to find someone who's appeared more
www.reddit.com/r/Gundam/com... Here he is talking to Domon in SRW T! Plus a Getter Gundam kitbash
Getter Robo appears in Super Robot Wars a lot. But it's usually one of the anime adaptations where the resemblance is more vague. (Usually it's 70s Toei Ryoma)
I’m sorry. Did we decide the “good guy” scientist setting his own son on fire wasn’t worth a comment?
I'm trying not to 100% liveblog all my thoughts, it will take too long LOL
Understandable. Like I said, it’s a ride.
Getter Robo is definitely very ripped from the headlines in this respect and a LOT of later mangas are more-or-less riffing on the Getter boys (especially Ryoma and Hayato)
Dynamic Planning, the studio responsible for Mazinger Z and Getter Robo, tended to produce protagonists who were considered radically new in manga They feel like archetypes now because their ideas Caught On
Classic go nagai art is so unique
This isnt go nagai. Getter Robo was drawn and written by ken ishikawa. He was nagai's assistant so you can see the similarities.
Nagai's name is on the credits for the manga mainly because ken used some of his mecha designs for mazinger that ended up not appearing in the story, and credited him as co creator because of that. But its important to clarify that its his own work.
Ohh, I thought they collaborated on the art too, my bad
Its ok, its easy to confuse because they are both tagged as co creators, and Ken's art was so similar to his mentor until he developed his own style in the 90s.
And also Nagai designed Getter 2 and Getter 3 with Ishikawa designing Getter 1
It's some good mecha stuff!
The begining is your average go-nagai inspired monster of the week mecha adventures, but please read up to Getter Robo Go/Shin (made 30 years after the original), those two arcs are a masterpiece.
ryoma is so sillies and yet so full of violence, I love him so much.
Oh your doing a full read of the manga from the beginning. You are in for a wild ride.
Yeah, theta getter robo in a nutshell
yeah the getter robo manga goes hard as FUCK
A very funny thing is that the Saga release of the series included additional and reworked scenes by Ishikawa, and you can.see how drastically his style had changed from when he started It's pretty cool!
