Watched Godzilla (1954). I really liked the special effects, the cuts between the models/suits and live action was really cleverly done. I once read that Japanese scifi/monster fiction has a unique flavor due to experience being the "losers" - it listed Gundam as an example - anyway, Godzilla fits.

oh yeah, there just seems to have been a big recent influx with mechsploitation etc. I am trans and my tumblr circle is like 98% trans women and switching from being a yuri poster to being a Gundam poster was so smooth because the overlap is ridiculous LOL even pre-gwitch I think

I actually wrote up a tumblr post about this a while ago, how for whatever reason (Charmuro having a higher number of lesbian fans maybe?) it was the first BL ship I interacted with that felt like it was actually really welcoming to us non-BL folks. It's been really fun and refreshing
