I’m considering going to see Jaws in IMAX this weekend. I’ve actually never seen it because my mom is *terrified* of sharks and then I just never caught it as an adult. Been on the ride at Universal Studios though!

Oh that’s totally the same thing
I've never seen it either and everything I know about it is also from Universal Studios and that boring play about it on Broadway. Let me know if it's worth finally seeing.
OMG I saw “that boring play” in London where it was also boring. I will let you know how I react. TBH I think my Taurus is going to come out and call it overpraised regardless but I’m willing to give it a go!
Saw it two times when it first came out. I was nine. Me and my sisters snuck back into theater for second showing. 😁 Enjoy! 🦈
Good old times when age limit was more like a suggestion. ^^
Our older sister chaperoned us. My other sister was eight. There was no lasting psychological impact except a growing love of horror flicks. 😁
Same. Did see lots of classic horror movies like Jaws when i was a child. Hell, i remember one Batman movie having a way higher age rating and all the cashier asked was, can you handle some violence? Mention about Bad Taste movie was enough to get in. :p
In the early 1970s, I was a big Hammer fan. However, scariest movie I saw as a kid was "Let's Scare Jessica to Death" (1971)! 😱
I'm sorry about continuing this but worst horror movie i ever saw was: Guinea Pig 2: Flower of Flesh and Blood We had a Halloween party and during that movie, no one spoke a word...
In the 1990s, me and a bunch of friends used to have a weekly "Bad Movie Night." The goal was to choose a movie that was worst than the one we last saw. You won if everyone agreed that that one was the worst. Sounds like this might have been a good contender. 😁
That idea should be brought back. Imagine young snowflakes seeing the horror movies of old times? They have no idea or experience on that. ww
Horror movies are a great way to expand your intellectual horizon. They are often more about defining the idea of humanity. The Walking Dead series is not so much about zombies as it is about how people react to adversity through types of community, whether fascist, communitarian, etc.
And i have to say, i liked The Walking Dead until the baseball scene. That was too much for me. First seasons were great.
I agree. Unlike modern movies, the old horror movies were more clear about morality and choices. Insert scene from a zombie movie where a girl let his zombie boyfriend chomp on her head. ^^
I would have been glad to be invited to those. ww
Btw, Finland didn't get much horror movies at that time. There was a ban. To see them there were smuggled VHS tapes. I learned English pretty fast watching movies that were illegal. ^^ I can't remember one name but it was about a drink that dissolved people. Cover was a rotten skeleton on a toilet?
That's not ringing a bell at all. 🤔
Found it. Long forgotten. ^^ horror.fandom.com/wiki/Street_...
Sounds like interesting social commentary through horror genre. Maybe a prelude to series of Purge movies?
I have to confess that i was so young that i don't remember much but i do remember army in trench fighting off undead and running in haunting forest.
I don't think i ever was scared about horror movies. Bad Taste taught me that it's all fake. If you look closely when Derek is tumbling down the cliff, there is a person who throws blood from a bucket. It's all fun and entertainment. ^^
Never saw that one. Heard Peter Jackson got his start in horror, but never watched any of his films other than Tolkien movies. The online description of Bad Taste reminded me of Black Sheep share.google/2pMMrFSY9QnL.... I haven't seen the latter either but a NZ friend keeps recommending it. 😁
There is one horror movie that i saw when child but haven't found the name... I remember it started with an army truck driving in a forest, one jumped off and ran with the truck and next thing i remember is they were fighting zombies or other undead. Made maybe 70's?
Hmm. Not bringing anything to mind except a scene in Dawn of the Dead. I think an opening scene was a helicopter that's taking off. It then lops off the top of a zombie head trying to get at the passengers. Saw it at drive-in theater, age 11. 😁 youtu.be/4G94NOyLF7U?...
I like those old zombie movies. ^^ I think it was not well known movie. It was centered in a forest.
Well i have to thank you for ticking my nostalgia nerve. I just had to google and... Street Trash. I am a fan of old time horror flicks. ^^
Let me add, the worst scene was and still is, that barf soup...
🤢 😁
After all these years, that "soup" scene still gives me barf reflex...
Wild. I don't remember not seeing Jaws. We always watched 4th of July. It's great
Whatever you think you’re expecting, you’ll be surprised. It’s like seeing “Psycho” for the first time — everybody knows the shower scene, but they gasp and scream at the other horrors. You’ll hear giggles the first time the John Williams theme plays, but nobody will be laughing by the end.
It's in my top 5 fave all-time movies! I've seen it dozens of times & would love to see it in IMAX. I hope you do too.
I’m really intrigued of how you find it. Do update. One of my favourite films, but that’s cause I saw it when I was about 10. Does it stand up to modern fresh eyes?? And in IMAX too, you lucky human.
IM DEFINITELY GOING 🦈 I've only seen it on the big screen ONCE, waaay back in the day. Since then I have come to love everything about the movie: the acting, the script, the cinematography, the score... and I know it well enough that I can close my eyes and plug my ears for the really gory parts.
Do it. Iconic film. If you can watch the documentary afterwards, not before - it’s fantastic.
Sounds like you should take your mom
