Struck me afterward that it is a PERFECT sleepover movie for teens
Honestly, we need more films like that. Films for all ages and all fear levels.
TBH this film really reminded me of Roald Dahl's the Witches in that Aunt Gladys comes across similar to the titular witches in terms of a creature doing an uncanny valley impersonation of a nice old woman. Funnily enough despite the R rating it arguably has a happier ending than the OG book.
In that it implies the affected kids and potentially adults can eventually heal and go back to normal compared to the Witch's protagonist whose stuck as a mouse for the rest of his (probably short) life.

i also got serious short story vibes from the movie, the way the structure prioritizes characters while they're not the main drivers of plot action, & then by the end the overarching plot turns out to be pretty simple
After spending much of the money trying to figure out who was playing Gladys, I almost yelped with joy when her name came up in the end credits.
the way that ending sequence had me screaming with laughter only to wipe that expression off of my face in like, half a second. Incredibly fun film. I was purely into it as a thrill ride and it delivered. I also love how all of the drag queens i follow on instagram are eating this one up.
oh wow, I donβt think Iβd read anyone compare it to Stephen King even though all the suburban beats are right there; makes a lot of the vibe click for me
so we saw it last weekend and then on wednesday it was bring your kid to work day at my job. and someone's little preschooler ran past me weapons-style (total coincidence ALLEGEDLY)
The fork-stabbing scene made me wince so much. I hated it (in the way the filmmakers intended). Even more than the peeler to the face. New bodily harm trigger discovered. Ending scene was cathartic as all Hell, even though it probably traumatized the kids even more.
My favorite horror director right now. He manages to tap into and recreate that kind of deep chilling fear I had as a child when I watched horror.
YAY I am so glad you enjoyed. Such a fun movie, great with a crowd
Was waiting for your opinion on this going βplease let Gretchen like this, please let Gretchen like this.β Lmao

Me and my roommate are seeing it tonight, so excited!
I watched Uncle Buck about a week after Weapons and was delightfully surprised by her range. What a gem!
The ending sequence had me crying real tears
Her just casually telling that kid that she could make his parents eat each other if she wanted was genuinely upsetting.
She just wanted to hear the pitter patter of tiny feet before she died.
I could not, for the life of me, place her. Then, all of a sudden I whispered to my husband: βChanice.
When the mask came off, I was absolutely terrified of her. Doesn't help that I knew a (genuinely sweet) turban-wearing elderly eccentric when I was a kid.
this really helped me sort through some of my own feelings about this movie!
I love that!
oooo my feed has been so split on this one, i was waffling over making the time to see it- youβve sold me on it!
One of the best ending sequences I've seen in a horror film in years.
It was hard not to grin at that entire sequence.
when she says "oh no!" and runs off with her hands up i fuckin lost it
I honestly can't thing of another horror movie that managed to pull off a genuinely funny (not slap-sticky "horror comedy" funny) ending.
It was just "Looney Tunes" enough. Skirted the line of being slapstick.
It felt wrong at first due to the emotional weight Josh Brolin's character brought to that scene but as soon as it all kicked off I was like "oh it's gonna be like that, eh?" and welcomed the relief after the tension that had been building pretty much the entirety of the film.
I enjoyed as well. Different and good.
For those of us who saw and really didnβt care for Barbarian - is there an actual story this time?
I DESPISED Barbarian. This was much much better
Noted and appreciated.
