if you’ve never met my dad, picture a reasonably thorough Hank Hill clone with the voice of Art from Justified, now make that man a superfan of the hit CW television program Supernatural, a show his children and grandchildren have never seen

I almost want to start watching it myself but at the moment my entire knowledge of it is filtered through him (because when it was originally airing he would call me weekly to tell me what was happening) and I kind of want to preserve that liminal space
Also, it's like 15 seasons long, so that's a huge commitment.
He’s retired for the third time and it’s too hot to fish this week so I guess this fills the hours
It is a genuinely entertaining show, but also hearing the plot described only through Dad Understanding would be incredible
I don’t even know how he found the CW in the first place!
I can imagine a word of mouth campaign amongst boomer men about the demon hunting in muscle cars brother duo set to ‘70s rock that’s wedged between teen soap operas
...I'm listening
Did ACC Football do this?
No this goes back years before that was even a thing
I’ve never watched it. I’ve just heard at one point they kill God, then there’s still 2 more seasons.
K but it's pretty decent and then it goes completely off the rails bonkers at some point but it's still strangely fine and watchable
I guess I’m concerned it won’t live up to the expectations he has set for me over the years
there was an avclub article this week about teens/your dad discovering the show in 2005:
I wish I hadn’t deleted my Facebook/Twitter, because I have no idea when he started imparting this information to me, I should’ve written it all down
there's an in-show storyline about the fanfiction/gospel of sam and dean. i'm glad your dad has been sharing the good news
Somehow it went from so good to unwatchable and then back to “ehh, not so bad again”. You can do a lot in fifteen seasons.
It got rough and then it starting making fun of itself and it was fine and we all got through it 😂
This sounds like me talking to my friends about Monk in middle school
Why is he not famous?
Too sensible
Reasonable
have been watching the new KotH episodes and smiling, thinking about Beeeill
My only knowledge of the show outside the 1st season is the time they did a crossover episode with Scooby-Doo.
Fun fact: college friend of mine was a maid in Jensen Ackles' wedding (he married a girl from Eunice)
I hung out with Jensen and Jared at a Sturgill Simpson concert once
Always heard they're Dudes Rock kinda dudes
They were 100% Dudes. Just the nicest guys. I didn't want to bother them, but I said to my buddy "See those two guys? They are on [ ex's] favorite show" He just went right up and said "His ex loves your show" and they were like "Oh, that's really nice, thanks" and we just hanged for a few hours
So i tried to watch it and there are a LOT of episodes
15 seasons!!
And from what Im told its good, then bad, the really bad, then fantastic
With football season on the horizon I am starting to understand the appeal
i would flip fantastic and good in the order but yes the thing that kept it on for 15 seasons is the leads not just being extremely hot but also inexplicably acting their asses off the entire time
supernatural 1-5 is probably one of the best story arcs I've ever seen on tv
I got back from overseas and watched a couple and realized that there was way too much lore for me to jump in on it, so maybe I'd catch up some day. That was in January 2008. It ran for TWELVE MORE YEARS. I am never even going to try.
The most confusing part for me is Dean from “Gilmore Girls” not playing the character named Dean.
this was definitely a point of confusion for me when my extremely supernatural obsessed friend tried to explain the plot to me "wait, so there's a character named dean AND jared padalecki is in it? i will never stop being confused by that"
I remember when it was still running in like 2017 and I was BAFFLED by why the network kept saying "New Episode" when, clearly, it must have come to a close in 2007 or so.
Holly has your dad ever been to a Supernatural convention? I think he’d lose his mind
Them boys is flyin’
Okay now I want to hang out with your dad
a man who loves TNT Primetime In The Daytime is a man I can appreciate
What I’m hearing is: we have a candidate for a recast of Nick Searcy for whenever they do the next Justified legacy series
I've already head canoned years ago that the Kentucky field office was renamed to honor Art Mullen after he died while working with a terminal disease. It was a lovely service.
What I'm learning is your dad and my dad (Texan Ron Swanson) would get along quite well
Oooh yeah he’s a Texas hoops fan for long and complicated reasons
Even now that Rick Barnes is in Knoxville?

Your dad is proof we all contain multitudes
