It's interesting how school-specific this is. My oldest was in Alpha Phi at Rensselaer, where there were a bunch of STEM majors who studied all weekend. The chapters in Miami and Arizona, however, are *completely* different.

It's highly regional-specific, too. In the big western publics there just aren't the same social and cultural patronage networks. In some social strata, your fraternity or sorority connections can make or break career tracks, which also is insane to me but that's cronyism for you.
