Well yes...and no. As a population there is a significant amount of unattributed gastro illnesses, so those that can't be linked to an event and are more likely to be linked to hygiene events, like cross contamination on chopping boards.

Yeah, see, I think for a lot of people the standard of cleanliness in their homes is a lot higher than "doesn't give you the shits".

Sure, but nobody microwaves bloody sponges, and those who do clearly have way too much time on their hands. Most busy workong families with kids dont have spotless houses and manage to clean sporadically yet are not perpetually ill. Too many people paranoid as a result of dettol adverts.

I do, for two reasons. One, I have kids and two I've done an awful lot of microbiology in my time. Tbh it takes 30 sec.
