No person, in this time of information, can honestly claim ignorance. The belief of false claims is stupidity. We should stop being nice about mocking stupidity.

One of the problems you arent accounting for is misinformation is often easier to understand and sounds more reasonable than truth. Going into detail about how xyz thing works and is good for you is harder than the person showing a nasty picture and saying xyz thing caused it.

I don't agree. For 99% of the bullshit and misinformation out there, it is really easy to find out facts. There are several websites dedicated to this in fact. It also doesn't help when people are brainwashed into believing fairytales. Couple that with unquestionable authority.
