I know what an atheist is. Funny though that an atheist wrote an essay on Atheist Morality. Perhaps introduce yourself to the essay, to understand the reason for it. Early definitions of Atheist included 'immoral'. Historical context matters.

There was that one time when the seat fell off. Thankfully I was wearing protection. It still hurt though. Bicycle... anything but yes means NO!
Mr. Beerd (@mrbeerd.bsky.social) reply parent
That's just fucking stupid. There is no amount of belief that converts a lie to the truth. And if you are told that your belief is a lie, and you spread it anyway...it is still a fucking lie. You weren't raised in Oklahoma by chance, were you?

You're welcome. I was so brainwashed that my deconversion took about 7 years. I am a Social Humanist. I have many beliefs. None require fairytales or supernatural entities. Humans don't need to look "up" for answers.
Mr. Beerd (@mrbeerd.bsky.social) reply parent
In fact, the whole site is full of information that could free your mind from religion.

Mr. Beerd (@mrbeerd.bsky.social) reply parent
I do and have. At one time I was a fundamentalist Christian. I was born into it and brainwashed like many before me. I was serious in my beliefs and raised many questions that went unanswered. So I searched for the answers. None provided evidence for anything supernatural.
Mr. Beerd (@mrbeerd.bsky.social) reply parent
1 \= most. You made a vacuous claim. Seriously, crack open a few actual history books and read about how religion is spread. Preferably ones written by professional historians and not apologist whitewashing history.
Mr. Beerd (@mrbeerd.bsky.social) reply parent
I will put up atheist conscience against any religion, any time, any day. In fact, there are a couple of excellent essays that compare Atheist Morality to Christian Morality if you are interested in reading. I can provide the links.
Mr. Beerd (@mrbeerd.bsky.social) reply parent
Your failure is due to incorrectly equating consciousness to religion. One does not require the other.
Mr. Beerd (@mrbeerd.bsky.social) reply parent
No. You need to actually read some history. Specifically the parts that cover forced conversion. There is also cultural influence, most are born into it. Very few people turn to religion. You can read about when that happens as well. It doesn't bode well.
Mr. Beerd (@mrbeerd.bsky.social) reply parent

Mr. Beerd (@mrbeerd.bsky.social) reply parent

I don't agree. For 99% of the bullshit and misinformation out there, it is really easy to find out facts. There are several websites dedicated to this in fact. It also doesn't help when people are brainwashed into believing fairytales. Couple that with unquestionable authority.

I find it hilarious that when I served in the US Army whenever we needed to clean up an area of trash or ammunition casings it was called "Policing the Area". These national guardsmen were called upon to assist local law enforcement. They are now literally Policing. π€£
Mr. Beerd (@mrbeerd.bsky.social) reply parent
That's unfortunate. Especially since some religions (if we're talking globally) don't have any deities. They should do better, IMO. It isn't that difficult to find out what specific religion/denomination someone is arguing for so that rebuttals can be specific. I don't like Hasty Generalization
Mr. Beerd (@mrbeerd.bsky.social) reply parent
Thanks for elucidating. Are the ones you speak of grouping all religions together, or are they grouping all denominations of Christianity together or just the Abrahamic religions?

Mr. Beerd (@mrbeerd.bsky.social) reply parent
How many occupants will fit in one of your 8 story buildings? Does your 20 minute commute to downtown require more public transport infrastructure? How many of these apartment buildings will fit in the areas you are designating?
Mr. Beerd (@mrbeerd.bsky.social) reply parent
For the entire US, it will cost billions. For your city, of course not...and I was not claiming that either.
Mr. Beerd (@mrbeerd.bsky.social) reply parent
How?
Mr. Beerd (@mrbeerd.bsky.social) reply parent
I will dig deeper then. The takeaway here is that the issue, whatever the multitude of causes there are, simply won't be fixed by just building more houses.
Mr. Beerd (@mrbeerd.bsky.social) reply parent
I will have to do more research to validate the claims. I am not claiming that this is the primary cause. I'm only noting it being a part of a web of issues that can't be fixed by just throwing billions into more houses.
Mr. Beerd (@mrbeerd.bsky.social) reply parent
I am advocating for a resolution to prevent price gouging, utilization of current resources, increase in federal minimum wage to provide more people the opportunity to purchase, increase in job security, before we just throw billions into building more houses that people can't afford.
Mr. Beerd (@mrbeerd.bsky.social) reply parent
Some choose not to and that's a huge problem. Some areas are pushing through legislation that prevents long term vacancies. This generally results in rental price increases that prohibit "regular" tenants from occupying anyway. Point is, we don't need more houses yet. We need better legislation.

Mr. Beerd (@mrbeerd.bsky.social) reply parent
Source? I think you'll be surprised that policy has shifted in the last few decades due to the benefit of the artificial vacancy trend driving up scarcity which drives up pricing due to higher demand. The funniest thing is they are missing out by keeping people poor too.
Mr. Beerd (@mrbeerd.bsky.social) reply parent
I am pretty sure that eliminating the costs in time & money associated with vetting, leasing, maintenance, repairs, and management of multiple properties is covered many times over by just keeping it vacant. Otherwise it wouldn't be a current trend that will increase in exploitation.
Mr. Beerd (@mrbeerd.bsky.social) reply parent
Is this a serious question?
Mr. Beerd (@mrbeerd.bsky.social) reply parent
Buy low sell high is a factually incorrect assertion? Or do you not understand how rich people make money? You didn't read the question that prompted the response, did you?
Mr. Beerd (@mrbeerd.bsky.social) reply parent
Vacancies shouldn't be predicated on homelessness. The stat was just to show that new construction won't solve the issue and that there's a hoarding issue that legislation should be created to mitigate. I don't disagree with working towards a zero homeless population. I advocate for real solutions
Mr. Beerd (@mrbeerd.bsky.social) reply parent
Uh...no kidding. Forced low vacancies by using homes as long term investments creates artificial scarcity. Build more and more investment corps will buy them and still keep them empty. You aren't focusing on the actual cause. Therefore you don't have a valid solution.
Mr. Beerd (@mrbeerd.bsky.social) reply parent
What does that question have to do with the facts? I didn't do the study. How many homeless are there versus how many vacancies in this metro area you are putting forth?
Mr. Beerd (@mrbeerd.bsky.social) reply parent
I purchased a home 7ish years ago for $115,000. Today it is valued at $230,000. My ex mother in law purchased her home in the 70's for $30,000. She sold it in the 00's for $180,000. Get it yet?

1/2 "Housing is expensive because we don't have enough homes and need to build more." This is demonstrably false. For every homeless person in the US there are ~27 vacant houses. A vast majority owned by corporations that purposely leave them vacant as long term investments. Source in 2/2.
