LA county board of supervisors is insane. Itβs 5 members who each represent 2,000,000 people and they have a fifty billion dollar budget.
They're about to be marginally less terrible on that metric, I'm curious to see what difference it makes
That's going to be muddled by simultaneously adding an elected executive (functionally a county mayor) though. This is also against the backdrop of probably the majority of county residents not really properly understanding how the county government overlays with the municipal governments.
Also they apparently deleted a section of the county code without anyone noticing?
This is exactly what I heard. If you're NIMBY enough at the legislature, you can NIMBY even harder at the LA City Council or Board of Supervisors
The city of Los Angeles has a uniquely cursed political culture. All its civic infrastructure until the 1990s served the Republican Party and when Democrats took over, they tried to rebuild out of 1970s activist movements. It's also a relatively poor large city with extremely transient industries.
Some of the transience is self-created though, e.g. the porn industry probably wouldn't have left without Measure B. Also the housing theory of everything angle where the transient industries would probably be inclined to be less transient without the soul crushing Los Angeles commutes.
