NICE!
NICE!
Dave Olbrich in 1986 I think private messaged me on CompuServe excited that he'd just signed Rob Liefield to Malibu, apparently telling everyone in the Comics SIG.
So well deserved to be recognized by the King! You and George created a groundbreaking piece of artistry in the medium. I still read Crisis each year and love it every time.
Well earned.
Thank you for sharing. This is amazing.
Hi, Jerry. Why did the Kirby Awards end? I think Eisners & Harveys are still given, correct? Or they at least outlasted the Kirbys.
I think they were sponsored by Malibu Comics at the San Diego con, and maybe tied to Marvel buying them? San Diego already had the Inkpot Awards, so maybe nobody fought to keep them active or search for a new sponsor? Someone must have better info?
Thanks! Here's another memory for ya. ("Meanwhile") ;-) Forgive me for saying, but I've wondered a long time why Starman & Dr. Mid-Nite didn't make the cut on this stunningly good "Who's Who" entry. I realize you can only fit so many characters. No hard feelings if you don't answer. Best wishes.
Probably lack of space? But Dc likely specified the characters shown and maybe cut me a break from having to draw two more!
Fundamentally sound, naturalistic figures. Everyone looks good. Big cast, almost like the Legion of Super-Heroes.
Thats awesome!
— I blame Stan Lee, who’s still scheming from beyond the grave—erasing Kirby’s contributions and stealing the credit for his work! —
