I was initially resistant to it, but I am okay with it, as fans need to see themselves reflected in the characters. It’s also a diverse world. In my work I tried to create new characters that reflected different ethnicities as well.
Jim Mooney was invited to a dinner by DC people, so we got him drawing on the month we launched Man of Steel. I got to ink Jim, which was cool

I don’t know. Clark was working at a newspaper like world weekly news or something, and we were all in the opening scene as the editor went in the elevator and down the hall to his office. It was January of 1991? Gulf war started while we were there!

Data may be more fickle than carrying a charge. The ones that didn’t work are noticeably thinner than the ones that did work.
I do not know about that, they just didn’t carry music through my headphones. I bought a couple that had “Apple compliant” or something and they worked fine.

You have to buy an Apple approved lightning connector . Many are not, so look for one that says so in the description. Happened to me too and I have several useless ones that don’t work.
I drew this at @terrificon.bsky.social a few weeks ago. Hard to draw on these as art pens don’t dry on the coated paper. So it’s a hybrid of a 005 ink base micron with a Sharpie for the thicker lines. Enjoy!
In 1986, Marvel was withholding Jack Kirby’s artwork unless he signed an onerous agreement about his rights. I made a bunch of these masks and gave out to fans to wear at the Marvel panel at Chicago Con, to unnerve Jim Shooter when promoting the new stuff. I guess I saved one in my files.

Found this Topps wrapper in my files, saved because they repurposed my movie adaptation art for the graphic.
The New York Times was too busy writing hit pieces about Mamdani’s college application to bother to report on first hand accounts of Mayor Eric Adams’ closest confidants handing out ENVELOPES FILLED WITH MONEY to reporters.
It was awesome, especially the first issue as the pages in issue 2 were retraced from pages inked by Mike Thibideau by Keith Giffen, for us to ink. Those lost some Kirby in that transition. But still a good cause!

We all inked pages for free so Kirby could get the full image royalty! Those two Phantom Force comics are fun, seeing weird collaborations!

I scanned the pencils from copies DC sent me. They wanted me, but didn’t have time to ink this one. I always wanted to ink a Gene Colan story, that was my one chance, sadly.
They (dc) were trying to kill the idea, without saying don’t do this! I believe it didn’t happen because Geraldo couldn’t wear the Superman costume so DC succeeded:)
I did see it on my own dime! I liked parts of it.
Another old letter, when Gene Corman wanted me to do the poster art for A Man Called Sarge movie he was doing. I drew some sketches, then bailed when no money was offered:( The movie WAS made, though but I never saw it!
Nearly 1988, I was supposed to be on the Geraldo show, along with Noel Neill, Jack Larson and Marc McClure to promote Superman, but Geraldo insisted on wearing a Superman costume, which was kind of a deal breaker for DC. I am not sure this show happened but I didn’t participate, no regrets.
She was great, did a lot for working conditions and was the best cheerleader for comics as well as creators. Can’t say enough good things about Jenette Kahn and her time running DC.

The Kirby characters were on hold until the first Superman Annual introduced them, and that was a long wait in comic book time:) Also no guarantee I’d get to use them.
I bought a Wood gouache illustration that was in Galaxy. Was clearly a cool client for Wally Wood for a while! But a good era for short stories as well
I grew up in a Hispanic neighborhood, and always felt they were under represented in comic books! Doing Suicide Slum stories was a nod to Kirby and a way to do blue collar stories, something that didn’t exist in Superman stories since the 30s. Anyhow thanks for starting the thread!

It was a way to show that the street crime was there and that Superman could use help. But also a way to contrast what a normal human without powers or gadgets had to face to fight crime
Yeah, thanks. Back when I first got on Superman we weren’t allowed to use the Guardian, so with some help from my studio pals I sketched out Gangbuster and his back story. But the editor and writer had no interest, so I kept bugging them. So that’s a solo creation.
I bought a handful of Galaxy Mags 25 years ago that had cool wood art inside and that one cover. Kind of sad that type of thing doesn’t exist anymore in the mainstream

Might be time to sell more original color guides. Tons of Wonder Woman, Generations, 100 Bullets, Superman/Bugs Bunny etc. to sort through! Nothing like moving to force you to downsize everything.
I am hopeful though it used to be a share of a licensing fee, but now it’s a bonus and probably not much $
