Strangely, in the second paragraph, this article indicates that the Consul referred to Mezcal as "strychnine". I do not recall that being the case. Wasn’t he literally drinking strychnine (which was used as a performance enhancing drug at the time)? Does my memory fail me?

Editor's note: Hugh had imposed a strychnine policy for Geoffrey to try to wean him off alcohol. It's mentioned briefly a couple times in chapter 3, I think.

That’s what I thought! I wasn’t sure if I was remembering incorrectly, but I was quite certain it was pretty clear in the text that he was referring literally to strychnine...
