Incredibly, DHS employees have been victims of crimes by immigrants who DHS is not arresting as required by the Laken Riley Act. A customs agent was shot and Kristi Noem herself was robbed by immigrants who DHS was mandated to go arrest immediately in January.

Noem blames sanctuary city policies, but the whole point of the Laken Riley Act was to bypass those policies by requiring DHS to send agents to arrest anyone released by those cities. DHS is simply not following the law, or even attempting to.

Given my suspicions that it was not following the law, I requested via FOIA what instructions DHS was giving its agents about the Laken Riley Act. It turns out: IT DOES NOT HAVE ANY INSTRUCTIONS. bsky.app/profile/davi...

In January, I predicted that Trump would not follow the Laken Riley Act because the law is incompatible with mass deportation. It requires identifying specific people for removal based on specific risk factors, rather than indiscriminate targeting.

Trump is sending thousands of agents across the country to harass random people on the street and racially profile, rather than comply with the Laken Riley Act, which requires going after people arrested for serious crimes. bsky.app/profile/davi...

We now have overwhelming evidence that the White House is actively arguing for ignoring the Laken Riley Act and demanding ICE not focus on criminals.

The White House simply rejects the whole approach of the Laken Riley Act, which requires targeting people based on the past conduct (or alleged conduct), while the White House thinks there should be no targeting since a mom maybe could turn violent. bsky.app/profile/davi...

It's pretty funny how the Laken Riley Act allows for district court injunctive relief despite the Republicans supposedly hating district court injunctions.

They haven’t from the start. The % of criminals compared to the rest of immigrants kidnapped is like less than 5%. They are targeting anything not white.

Of course no one is issuing actual instructions. "We have no guidance from agency leadership on implementation" is a sentence I've heard from federal workers at multiple agencies, so that tracks. The regime hacks won't put any of their illegal orders in writing. Motto of the regime, at this point.
