i live 20 miles from the Indiana border in IL, and the sheer number of local suburban/exurban dipshits i've heard in my life threatening to leave IL because of taxes is astonishing. it's a 20 mile drive and they won't do it lol.

This is what I hate about politics and society in general: The world operates on money, so Republican politics already have an advantage. Like, you could attack the poor without too much resistance, but you can't really attack the rich in the say way, or businesses for that matter.

For example: I theorize this is why imposing regulations & restrictions on businesses & wealthy people are so hard, yet why the poor forever deal with red tape & hoops to jump through. They aren't seen as "necessary" for a strong economy, while wealthy business owners are. They have less leverage.

If you did away with wealthy or business owners, it could damage your states', cities' economics. However, if you boot at the low-income, poor people from your state, it wouldn't have as much of a detrimental impact, which is why Red states, cities do this through systematic changes.

And what real way is there to combat this style of politics? IF Democrats did the same as Republicans, attacked businesses and the wealthy with regulations and hoops, then they would probably lose political ground, which is why they don't. So they have no real recourse like Republicans.

I absolutely believe a capital revolt is possible, but the threats of a capital revolt seem to completely outsize the estimated impact of the policies being floated. I can just imagine "we'll deprive the city of money spending 1 weekend a month in the Poconos" like "no Amazon this Wednesday" stuff.

Mass recently passed a ‘millionaire tax’ on any income over $1M. Opponents screamed it would only drive wealthy and high earning citizens from the state. In fact since going into effect the number of people paying that surtax has increased.
