i can't even trade it in at verizon because it obviously doesn't work. fortunately i still have a Galaxy S4 sitting in a drawer that I have the cord for and it booted up fine. I am going to upgrade from an S9 to an S25+. if i understand the t&c i should be able to fly.
I know you weren't soliciting recommendations, but if you have a little extra scratch, I just got the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, and it's changed my life. Go play with one at a Best Buy before you rule it out. It's awesome.

Someone at the state fair handed me one (I think?) to take a picture of their family. The square initially repelled me but we were all intrigued in a way that hasn’t happened with tech in years
